If you are using a Steam controller, make sure Steam is set to Run as Administrator as well. For some reason, this setup allows for all buttons to work, including triggers. Now another weird thing is that after I uninstalled/reinstalled the game and still could not get any other controllers to work with it except the worn out PS4 one I bought the game on steam to see if it was easier to get your controllers recognized on there. Also there is an issue with having to hit a button like 10 times before it registers in game (sometimes) and then it shoots out 10 commands at once. Somethings I had to do for my controller to get it to work: Look in the FFXI directory and go to Tools, ToolsEU and ToolsUS and set the controller up for all three of those by running FFXIpadconfig in each folder. I have tried PS4 wired (and wireless with the adapter), XBox One wired (and with the adapter), PS3 wired and also XBox 360 wired for windows controllers.
