The impact of a constant religious opinion on a changing society has detrimental and benign effects on the populace of such a society. Marx understood that religion served a purpose or a function in society but did not agree as to the basis of that function. Ultimately religion and culture are inseparable in many ways. Religion was partly created in an effort to answer the questions that couldn’t be answered in any other way; to provide an explanation for the unexplainable. People live responsibly. Positive effects of religion on society. A large majority of Americans feel that religion is losing influence in public life, according to a 2019 Pew Research Center survey. Religion is one which imparts culture to most of the societies. The moral and ethical codes religions emphasize are very beneficial to society. Religion has played an important role in human society for many years. It is not just that the priests are male. As such, religion plays an essential societal role warranting special consideration. This was true in ancient Greece, for example, where priestesses presided over festivals in honor of the god Dionysus, but this was nevertheless a heavily male-dominated society and the priestesses did not advocate female domination. For many years, studies have examined the way religion has affected human relationships, particularly families. For thousands of years, various societies have had some form of religion at the center of their cultural beliefs and practices. This role was rightly described by a Chinese economist studying democracy in America. Not only does religion teach virtue, it catalyzes moral action. This helps them live within a set of rules unlike the animals. Religion is a wonderful thing if people are mature enough to realize that it is a belief and not a science. The impact to the society is enormous because people in that particular society and even those who hear about the negativity of religion in far away places naturally loose moral directions. While some say this is a good thing, many more view it as a negative development, reflecting the broad tendency of Americans to see religion as a positive force in society. As a result, families have helped promote and preserve religious beliefs and traditions. Without the religious frameworks that guide these actions, many people may not feel morally obligated to address societal problems, making religion important to society and its people. When this happens, the positive impact of religion is felt. Religious instruction and belief remain today the lifeblood of society’s moral ethos. But the true purpose of any religious system is not to murder and destroy “un-believers,” but to provide a set of tenets to live by that will make the individual a better person, thus helping society to improve, as each person contributes to the common good.
